Considerações sobre o desempenho de alunos na disciplina de Bioestatística da ULBRA / Considerations about the performance of ULBRA biostatistics’ students

A maior parte das universidades privadas gaúchas trabalha com um sistema de avaliaçãooficial que consiste na atribuição de notas numa escala de zero a dez. Apesar do processode avaliação do aluno ser muito mais complexo do que a simples atribuição de uma nota,professores são legalmente obrigados a finalizarem o processo mediante a apresentação deum número. Sabe-se que alunos dão grande importância para resultados numéricos, sejapara autocontrole de seu desempenho ou para competição entre colegas. O presente estudotem por objetivo analisar os resultados numéricos da avaliação de primeiro grau (G1) nadisciplina de Bioestatística da ULBRA e a sua relação com a probabilidade de aprovação doaluno. O processo de análise de dados contou com uma amostra de 804 alunos, onde foramutilizadas técnicas de estatística descritiva e de modelagem (regressão logística). O estudoapresenta, ainda, resultados obtidos num sub-amostra de 178 alunos, onde foram relacionadasas seguintes variáveis: desempenho esperado, nível de estudo, grau de dificuldade eresultados na avaliação G1.

Most of the particular universities of the RS works with an official system of evaluationthat consists of the attribution of notes in a 0-10 scale. In spite of the process of the student’sevaluation to be much more complex than the attribution of a single note, teachers are forcedlegally to conclude the evaluation process by the presentation of numbers. It is known thatstudents give great importance for numeric results, be for self-control of its acting or forcompetition between colleagues. The present study has for objective to analyze the numericresults of the evaluation of first degree (G1) in the discipline of Biostatistics of ULBRA and itsrelationship with the probability of the student’s approval. The process of analysis of data isbased on a sample of 804 students, where techniques of descriptive statistics and modeling(logistic regression) were used. This paper presents results obtained in a sub-sample of 178 students, where were analyzed the following variables: expected performance, study level,degree of difficulty and final results in the evaluation G1.
